Are you losing your following to the Instagram Shadow Ban?

Posted by on

There is a lot of talk lately about the recent Instagram Shadow Ban going on that has cost many people lots of engagement and following. These recent silent dips in engagement on Instagram can make or break a small business so we wanted to share with you some tips to find out if you’ve been caught in the shade and how to avoid it!

Before we do, it's important to know what will get you silently banned in the first place-

  • While tools like Linkstagram and Archie can get you more likes and more following, Instagram is cracking down on accounts that are using these bots to create their engagement as it goes against their terms of use policies.
  • Additionally, using “banned” hashtags will get you flagged as well!
  • Last but not least, a big one that will get you silently shaded is if you’ve actually be directly reported.

So how to remove your shadow ban…? While there isn’t a list or notification to tell you if your recent engagement drops are thanks to the infamous ban, you can do a few things to remove and avoid the ban moving forward!

  1. Take the time to read the Terms of Use. The real doc is over 5k words and hard to read for many, click here to read the offish rules from straight from IG or here's a link to a version re-written by a lawyer in plain English :)
  2. Drop the bots. Don’t chance paying money to help a feed that is getting banned, drop the bots and attribute more time to live engagement on Instagram, even if it's only 10-15 minutes once or twice a day
  3. Check your hashtags! This one is a pain in the rear, but important. Check each and every one of the hashtags you use on the regular, from there if you find that the hashtag has no images and there is a notice that it's been hidden, you know it's been banned and you should def drop it from your list of reliables.

We hope this gives you a little leg up in your quest build your clientele on Instagram! Tell us about your experience! Have you been shadow banned?
